Green Building Discussions with Local Industry and UMN

Irma Desiyana, S.Ars., M.Arch., Chair of UMN’s Architecture Professional Program, who served as moderator (2024)
In line with its commitment to improving energy efficiency and clean energy adoption, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara (UMN) actively supports knowledge-sharing initiatives with local industries and government. One recent example is the participation of UMN’s Irma Desiyana, S.Ars., M.Arch., Chair of UMN’s Architecture Professional Program, who served as moderator at the Forum Diskusi Nusantara during Banten Archweek 2024. This forum focused on Green Building Design and its regulatory implementation, featuring experts from academia, government, and industry. Through this role, UMN directly contributes to helping the community understand the importance of energy-efficient buildings as a foundation for sustainability. By facilitating discussions that clarify design principles and government regulations, UMN empowers local stakeholders to adopt cleaner, more efficient energy practices in construction and development. This hands-on involvement exemplifies UMN’s ongoing efforts to provide direct services—such as workshops, assessments, and expert guidance—to support energy efficiency improvements within the local built environment.
How UMN Empowers Legok Village Culinary MSMEs to Save Energy and Cut Costs Through Smart Electricity Management

(Doc. UMN, 2024)
A team of lecturers from Universitas Multimedia Nusantara conducted electricity management training for small culinary businesses in Legok Village to help them use energy more efficiently. Over three sessions, participants learned how to track and calculate the energy consumption of their electrical appliances and use an IoT-based monitoring system to observe real-time electricity use. This hands-on approach gave clear insights into energy use, helping them reduce waste and lower electricity costs—studies show that improving energy efficiency can save small businesses between 10 to 30 percent on their energy bills.
This program highlights the importance of improving energy efficiency and clean energy by providing direct support through training and smart tools. It empowers local businesses to actively manage their energy consumption, leading to cost savings and more sustainable energy use. This kind of practical helps not only benefit the economy but also supports environmental goals, creating a positive impact on the community, and promoting a cleaner, more efficient local industry.
