Irwan Julianto earned a Master of Public Health from the Harvard University School of Public Health in 1997 and a Doctorate in Communication Science from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Indonesia in 2014. He worked for 32 years as a journalist for Kompas Daily (1981–2013), specializing in science and health reporting. Prior to that, he completed his undergraduate studies in Biology at Satya Wacana Christian University, Salatiga, earning the titles of Sarjana Muda in 1977 and Sarjana Lengkap in 1985. He currently serves as a Lecturer (Lektor 200) at the Faculty of Communication, Universitas Multimedia Nusantara.
